Wilma Mabry Obituary

Wilma Faye Mabry, 89, of Morehead, Kentucky, best known as "Granny" to everyone, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2020, with her children at her bedside at St. Claire Regional HealthCare.

Born January 25, 1931, in Clio, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Gracie Carpenter Groves. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Mabry; her siblings: Maywood, Herb, Audrey, Paul, Dwight, Earl, and Barb.

She is survived by four children: Karen Mabry King of Sevierville, Tennessee, Pam Mabry-Clark (Harry), David Mabry (Anne), and Lorrina White (Keith), all of Morehead, Kentucky. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Kevin, Chastity, Crissie, Sierra, Lauren, Tracy, Mandi, and Lori; 11 great grandchildren: Paige, Sydney, Kayla, Bella, Benji, Dawson, McKenna, Cannon, Lynlee, Kayden, Lilah, and Landon; and 2 great-great grandkids, Kylie and Shayla.

She is also survived by three sisters: Shirley Stump (Tom), OraMae Elmore (Bill) and Carolyn Daugherty, all of West Virginia, as well as many nieces and nephews who loved their "Aunt Wilma."

Wilma was a homemaker, a loving wife, mother, and Granny. She loved gardening, especially her rose bushes, spending time with her family, and traveling.  Granny was a loving, selfless person who always put others needs in front of hers while here with us and decided years ago to continue that after death. She wanted to help find a treatment or cure for Parkinson’s Disease, so she decided to donate her brain to science. She thought if she could help just one person or her children or prevent one family from enduring the disease it would be worth it.  In her funny personality, she said, "I won't need it anyway."  By this selfless act, she will travel the world helping scientists do their research. https://braindonorproject.org/a-salute-to-those-whose-brains-are-going-places/

Memorial contributions may be made to The Brain Donor Project, P.O. Box 111002, Naples, FL 34108, or through https://braindonorproject.org/support-us. This non-profit supports the brain banks of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in helping people become brain donors to advance the science of neurologic disorders.

Granny, you will be missed by so many and we promise “We will drive safe and watch for deer” WE PROMISE....
