Walden Lee “Wally” Stone, age 70, of Copperas Hollow, Morehead, passed away Friday, May 20, 2022, at St. Claire HealthCare.
Born June 12, 1951, in Huntington, West Virginia, Wally was the son of the late Richard Thomas “Dick” Stone and Mary Louise Hall Stone.
Wally was united in marriage to his childhood sweetheart, Saundra Johnston Stone, on June 12, 1971, and they were looking forward to celebrating their 51st anniversary. In addition to his loving wife, three children will cherish his memory: Wesley Thomas Stone, Derek Trevor Stone, and Jessica Leigh Stone, and two precious grandchildren: Waden Lee Wilson and Zuri La’Shay Eve, all of Morehead.
Wally is also survived by two brothers: Rick Stone and David Stone, both of Morehead; one sister, Sue Patrick of Frankfort; and nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.
Wally graduated from high school in 1970 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. While serving in the military in Killeen, Texas, he attended college and also worked at Gibson’s. He earned an associate degree and attended Morehead State University for three years.
He enjoyed a variety of work experiences. He worked with the Army Corps of Engineers when Cave Run Lake was being developed, was a Heck’s employee in the gun department and moved to Assistant Manager and then Manager of the store. When Heck’s closed, Wally and his father, Dick Stone, opened Stone Auto Sales on Flemingsburg Road, where he worked until retirement.
Wally was a great outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, target shooting, and all kinds of guns. He also collected coins and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Most of all, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be remembered always and greatly missed.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Rick Stone officiating. Following the service, full military honors will be presented by Morehead American Legion Post 126.
