Virgil "Butch" Wesley Dermon III, age 64, of Williams Branch, Morehead, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born July 6, 1960, in Maysville, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Virgil Wesley Dermon II and Jewell Dean Mitchell Combess. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Michael Lee Combess.
Virgil is survived by his wife, Evelyn Gail Sparks Dermon; two sons, Virgil Wesley Dermon IV (Martha) and Michael Ray Dermon (Hope Lykins); a stepdaughter, Keisha Sparks (Jesse Dehart), all of Morehead; six grandchildren, Miranda Dermon, Brianna Sayers, Michael Dermon II, Calista Dermon, Rayleigh Dehart, and Jesco Dehart; one great granddaughter, Olivia Dermon; and a special friend he considered like a daughter, Denise Adams of Olive Hill.
Other survivors include two brothers, Robert Combess (Charlotte) of Munfordville, Kentucky, and David Combess (Margina) of Morehead; one sister, Mollie Sparks (Junior) of Morehead; his stepfather, Louis Combess; several nieces and nephews; and other extended family and many friends.
He was a U.S. Army veteran having proudly served his country as a drill sergeant and tank commander. Virgil was a former employee at Highwall Drilling as a driller and was a self-employed painter. He was of the Catholic faith. Virgil was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the outdoors. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351. A celebration of life will be held immediately following at 12 p.m. with Pastor Harold Ashcraft officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Morehead American Legion Post 126 at the funeral home.
