Valerie Kay (Hegenberger) Ison

Valerie Kay Ison, 88 of Dry Ridge, Kentucky, formerly of Sandy Hook and Flemingsburg, went to be with The Lord on Monday, May 4, 2026, at her home. 

Born Saturday, February 5, 1938, in Columbus, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Bruce and Audra Meredith Hegenberger.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Bethel Franklin Ison; her son Dwight Franklin Ison; and her sister Meredith Olson.  

Valerie is survived by her daughter, Vickie Keeton and husband Ken of Dry Ridge, Kentucky; one son, Paul Ison and wife Tammy of Williamstown, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Lorie Wilson and husband Jeremy of Cold Springs, Kentucky, and Jarrod Ison of Williamstown, Kentucky; and two great grandchildren, Benjamin Wilson and Matthew Wilson, both of Cold Springs, Kentucky.

Other survivors include sister-in-law, Ina Whitt (Harold) of Florence, Kentucky; brothers-in-law, Ernie Ison (Sue) of West Liberty, Kentucky, and Tommy Salyers of Oil Springs, Kentucky; and a host of nieces and nephews.  A heart felt thank you to Steve and Sherry Keeton for assisting the family in this very difficult time.

Valerie retired from the former Peoples Bank of Sandy Hook after 30+ years of service.  Her life was anchored in her family, to which she was committed with utmost love and care. Her participation in her church activities like vacation Bible school, and her love for singing demonstrated her deep devotion to her faith. 

After graduating from high school, Valerie voyaged to Scotland aboard the Queen Mary, accumulating a remarkable collection of stories and experiences she loved to share with her children, friends and family. Exemplifying the qualities of a Proverbs 31-woman, Valerie’s life reflected the virtues of patience, kindness and unconditional love, with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren being her most precious legacy.  Valerie was loved by all that knew her, and she will be greatly missed. 

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Ken Keeton officiating.  Burial will follow in the Ison Family Cemetery on Pruetts Fork Road in Sandy Hook. 

Pallbearers: Jarrod Ison, Daniel Greene, Michael Ison, William Copley, Shannon Blankenbeckler, and Raymond Ison. 

Visitation will be 11a.m.- 1 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Dr. Morehead, Ky 40351.
