Troy “Tootie” Vernon Adkins, age 80, of Kegley Ridge Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed from this life to his eternal home on Monday, October 12, 2020, surrounded by loving family at his home.
He was born March 6, 1940, in Rowan County, a son of the late Charlie B. and Lilly Trent Adkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Kenny Adkins.
Tootie is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Verleen Osborne Adkins, whom he married January 6, 1968; one son, Stacy Adkins, and granddaughter, Shelby Elizabeth Adkins, all of Morehead.
He is also survived by six brothers, Coy Adkins (Jean), Delmar Adkins (Rose), Leroy Adkins (Joann), all of Morehead, Kentucky, Ed Adkins of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, Jackie Adkins of Dayton, Ohio, Everett Adkins (Janie) of Decatur, Tennessee; three sisters, Alta Franks (Ronnie) of Morehead, Kentucky, Bonnie Boggs of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Mary Jo Mabry (Glen) of New Lebanon, Ohio. He also leaves behind many family and friends who will miss him greatly.
Tootie was first and foremost a dedicated Christian for 31 years. He was a faithful member of the East End Church of God and throughout his walk with Christ enjoyed visiting different churches. He loved church and good gospel singing. He was the No. 1 fan of his singer wife Verleen. They were inseparable and best friends. He enjoyed just sitting with “Mom,” as he addressed her, and always enjoyed her good homecooked meals.
Tootie was a lifelong farmer and logger with his beloved son Stacy. In his later years, he loved helping Stacy grow produce, watching the crops grow, and helping sell at the farmers market. He loved the outdoors and meeting and talking with people and sharing his life stories.
Tootie was a kind and gentle man with a giving heart. He never met a stranger and was always lending a helping hand to those in need. He was a hard-working man of wisdom and vision who provided for his family and loved them unconditionally. He was a devoted husband to Verleen, a wonderful Dad to Stacy, and a dedicated Poppy to Shelby. He will remain in their hearts forever.
