Tony Pecco, age 78, of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2022, at his home surrounded by his beloved family.
Tony was born on February 14, 1944, in Belfry, Kentucky, to parents Buster and Mary Jane Ball Pecco.
Tony truly enjoyed life and made everyone feel welcomed. He spent most of his life trading cattle, farming, and was the founder, owner and operator of the Community Soup Kitchen for seven years. Providing free homemade “country cooking” to those in need was a passion for him and his wife, Lula. He found true joy in helping others, especially those in need.
Tony was a Christian and a proud member of Ringos Mill Christian Church where he attended regular in-person services until his illness and pandemic occurred. Talking about Jesus was the highlight of his conversations. Attending church in-person was a true delight for him. In February of 2022, Tony was able to attend church in person twice which was the highlight of his month. Tony asked every person he would see “Did you go to church on Sunday? If you didn’t, then you need to go.”
Storytelling was something that Tony had perfected. Telling tall tales of the days gone by really added some humor with Tony as the storyteller while also keeping the past days alive. Tony enjoyed food--so much that he would be eating a meal and was talking about his next meal. In recent years bird watching from his large window provided comfort and joy, especially the daily visits from the cardinals.
He is survived by his wife, Lula Netherly Pecco whom he loved for 42 years; one brother, Tom Pecco of Morehead, Kentucky; three sisters, Ilene Tackett and Elizabeth Pecco Justice, both of Morehead, Kentucky, and Mary Ann Debord and husband William of Shelbyville, Kentucky; one sister-in-law, Anna Egan Pecco of Morehead; two nephews, Nathan Pecco and Nicholas Pecco and wife Jennifer, all of Morehead; two nieces, Angela Tackett of Morehead, Kentucky, and Mary Elizabeth Cummins and husband Kevin of Wallingford, Kentucky; and several great nieces and nephews.
Tony was preceded in death by his father, Buster Pecco in 2007; his mother, Mary Jane Pecco in 1994; his brother, Nick Pecco in 2018; brother-in-law, Forest Dale Tackett in 2020; and brother-in-law, Jerry R. Justice in 1997.
