Jessie Thomas “Tom” Anderson, age 71, of Island Fork Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2020, at Baptist Health in Lexington, Kentucky.
Born July 27, 1948, in Rowan County, he was a son of the late Jessie and Ethel Mauk Anderson.
Tom is survived by his wife, Andrea Purvis Anderson, whom he wed August 30, 1969; one daughter, Leah Anderson; one son, Jeremy Anderson; and twin granddaughters, who were the light of his life, Allie and Annie Anderson, all of Morehead.
He is also survived by one sister, Carolyn Webb, and one brother, Jack Anderson, both of Morehead, as well as nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, extended family and friends. He also leaves behind his long-time friend, traveling buddy and chauffer, Kent Logan (and Tina).
Tom was a U.S. Marine Corps Vietnam War veteran and was awarded the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Cross of Gallantry, Vietnam Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He served as Deputy Rowan County Jailer under Jessie Anderson and was a former employee of Rowan Water and the Kentucky State Highway Department. A lifelong farmer, he loved being outdoors, going to dirt track races, and NASCAR. However, his greatest joy was riding his girls around on his cart.
Due to COVID-19 requirements set forth by Governor Andy Beshear, a private family service will be held Friday, April 3, 2020, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals with Pastor Harley Sexton, Jr., officiating. Private burial will follow at Brown Cemetery.
