Thomas Hill Obituary

Thomas Edward Hill, husband of Gloria Lykins Hill, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023, after a courageous battle with brain cancer.  Born August 12, 1954, in Frankfort, Franklin County, KY, Tom was the son of the late Lewis Edward and Edwina Finneran Hill.

Tom was an extremely kind, generous, and brilliant man with a beaming smile and an unforgettable twinkle in his eye.  He was fiercely loyal to his loved ones.  Tom shared his time and talents with his community serving as an Assistant Scout Master for several years and was a chapter advisor within the Order of the Arrow.  He was a recipient of the Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow. He took great pride in encouraging his son Alex to be a leader and was enthusiastic about assisting Alex in becoming an Eagle Scout.  One of Tom’s scouts poignantly stated how everyone felt about him.  “I’m so sorry for your loss. He was a great man. A great scoutmaster. He was a large part of what made Troop 839 so special and such a good experience for all of us.  As an adult I realize just how much he went out of his way to make scouting the great experience it was. I’m heartbroken for you, your mom, and your sister because I know he was a good father and husband as well.”  Tom truly lived life to the fullest, always upbeat and looking forward to the next adventure.  His most valuable treasure was his family.

Tom received a Bachelor’s in Business and Marketing from Morehead State University.  While at MSU, Tom was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity where he served in a variety of capacities.  During his post-graduate studies, Tom worked for the university and loved telling the story of how he painted the football field.

Tom was employed with Booth Energy for several decades.  His extracurricular activities included building nine homes over a 14-year period.

In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by his two children Valerie Lykins Hill Edgeworth (Jeremy) of Frankfort, KY, and Thomas Alexander Hill of Morehead, KY. In addition, grandson David Lewis Edgeworth, sister Patricia Hill Thomas, brother-in-law Tony Jewell and several nephews also survive.   Tom was preceded in death by his sisters, Janet Hill Jewell, and infant Barbara Jo Hill.
