Thomas Gancio Obituary

Thomas John Gancio, 68, of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2022, at his residence.

 

He was born December 22, 1953, in Bay Shore, New York, a son of Anthony Joseph Gancio and Joan Eileen Hutchinson Gancio.  In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Wondolowski.

 

Survivors who will cherish his memory include his daughter, Kristy Rose Gancio Baggette and husband Joshua of Lake Charles, Louisiana; two granddaughters, Joselyn and Alexis; and two grandsons, Matthew and Caleb.

 

Additional survivors include Tom’s brothers, Robert Gancio of Levittown, New York, Michael Gancio of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Charles Gancio of Lexington, Kentucky, and sisters, Toni-Marie Knieriemam of Islip, New York, and Frances Gut of Carrollton, Virginia, as well as extended family and friends. 

 

Thomas was a graduate from East Islip High School, NY.  After High School, he started his career in Northrup Grumman as a wire technician for the Military’s F14 fleet. During his tenure at Grumman, he played on the National Travel Softball Team. Tom loved all sports, especially baseball and football. His favorite teams were the NY Mets and the Las Vegas Raiders. His other great love was for gardening.  After retiring, he would grow his own vegetables and flowers annually. Tom lived by the golden rule and was likened to the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:25-37, he always had mercy for his friend and neighbor and would always go out of his way to help whenever he could.

 

A visitation celebrating Tom’s life will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.  A memorial service for family and friends will be in East Islip, New York, on May 29, 2022.

 

In lieu of flowers, a Go-Fund-Me page in memory of Tom is being established for Tom’s grandchildren.  Details for this fund will be forthcoming.
