Thomas Leland Carroll

Thomas Leland Carroll, 77, of Blue Hall Road, Soldier, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2026, at the V. A. Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia.

Born February 20, 1949, in New Castle, Indiana, Tom was the son of the late Herbert and Dona Davis Carroll.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Smedley Carroll, who passed away April 9, 2008; an infant daughter, Christy Carroll; two brothers, Bobby Carroll and Jimmy Carroll; and two sisters, Tina Perkins and Tiny Purdue.

Survivors include two daughters, Stacy Carroll (Stacey Kennard), and Raylon Carroll of Soldier, Kentucky; one son, Thomas Carroll of Louisville, Kentucky; one granddaughter, Shelby Burton (Meme Burton) of Morehead, Kentucky, a very special niece, Alicia Smedley of Soldier, Kentucky; three sisters, Angie Miller of Monticello, Kentucky, Wanda Miller of Columbia City, Kentucky, and Suzie Abbott of Goshen, Indiana; four brothers, Leonard Carroll and Randy Carroll of Monticello, Kentucky, and Earl Carroll and Osbie Carroll of Goshen, Indiana, as well as extended family and friends.

Tom served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/1*, Purple Heart Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/device, Rifle Marksman Badge, and Combat Action Ribbon.  He was a retired self-employed carpenter and enjoyed gardening, canning, farming, and “messing with old junk.”  He will be missed by those whose lives he touched during his earthly journey. 

Visitation will be at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.  Immediately following the visitation at 11 a.m., the funeral procession will leave the funeral home and travel to the Wilder Cemetery in Morgan County where a graveside service will be held at 12 noon with family officiating.
