Thelma Hampton Charles, age 75, of Morehead, passed away Thursday, September 30, 2021, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
Born May 29, 1946, in Sandy Hook, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Daisy Adkins Hampton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three children, Terry William Spears, Davey Wayne Spears, and Lesley Charles Kendall; one sister, Mary Catherine Hampton; and two brothers, Johnny and Leroy Hampton.
She is survived by three daughters, Tonya LeMaster and husband James and Kimberly Martin, all of Morehead, Selina Mollohan and husband Brian of Clearfield; two sons, Chesley and Wesley Spears; one brother, James Hampton; three sisters, Stella Hampton, Connie Stegall, and Myrtle Elliott; eight grandchildren, Tausha Shepherd (Matthew), Jessica Kidd (Jeffrey), Ashley Spears, Krista Martin, Charles Logan (Kailiegh), Nolan Kendall, Halli Kendall, Keydon Charles; five great grandchildren, Dalton Stone, Kamyrn Kidd, Tristan Kidd, Braleyn Setters, and Jaxon Shrout, as well as nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.
Thelma was a devoted Christian. She enjoyed gardening, spending time with her family, singing, dancing, and all genres of music. Thelma once won a square-dancing contest at the Hardwood Festival in Morehead, Kentucky. In her younger years, she participated in the first Dislocated Worker Program, where she was highly active. She learned a variety of skills and received several certificates of achievement. Thelma will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, October 3, 2021, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Fannin officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
