Shirley (Terrell) Johnson

Shirley Terrell Johnson, age 81, of Maxey Flat Road, Hillsboro, passed away Monday, December 6, 2021, at U.K. HealthCare in Lexington.

Born November 7, 1940, at Upper Lick Fork in Pelfrey, in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late Columbus and Arntie Hardin Terrell.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Farris, Junior, Glendon, and Raymond Terrell, and three sisters, Mable Perry, Linda Lou Mullins, and Ruth Gibson.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Gene Johnson on November 29, 2020; one son, Gene Edward Johnson on December 21, 2007; and one daughter, Penny Bowman on November 7, 2020.

Shirley is survived by three children:  Glenda Edward of Bethpage, Tennessee; Rickey Dale Johnson and wife Tina of Portsmouth, Ohio; and Tammy Darby and husband Jeff of Bucyrus, Ohio; one son-in-law, Johnny Bowman of Morehead; 14 grandchildren, Travis Johnson, Jessica Johnson, Shannon Darby, Jared Darby, Jeremy Darby, Sydney Johnson, Dalton Johnson, Jonathan Bowman, Alexandria McClain, Sarah Bowman, Kelly Bowman, Makayla Bowman, Amanda Bowman, and Nicole Brewer; and 17 great grandchildren.

Other survivors include two sisters, Mazel Mullins and Betty Maxey, both of Albion, Indiana; nieces and nephews; extended family; and friends.

Shirley retired from Sealmaster and enjoyed being involved with church activities and attending Sunday church services and revivals.  Shirley also enjoyed baking, flower gardening, sewing, and most of all spending time with his family and spoiling her grandchildren.  She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. 

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Little Mary Baptist Church with Pastor Jared DeAtley officiating.  Burial will follow in Little Mary Cemetery.  Pallbearers:  Jonathan Bowman, Andrew Brewer, Johnny Bowman, Michael, Gehler, Justin Reynbolds, and Gary Thomas.

Visitation will be from 12 noon until 1 p.m. Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Little Mary Baptist Church, 1135 Maxey Flat Road, Hillsboro, KY 41049.
