Scharline Townsend Whidden, 76, of Morehead, KY, passed away peacefully at home on April 11, 2020, after a long illness.

She was born June 1, 1943, in Jeffersonville, KY to the late Daniel Boone and Allie Mae Skidmore Townsend.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Charles Jackson “Jack” Whidden, whom she wed on March 12, 1971; two daughters, Mary Whidden (husband James Phillips) of Newburgh, NY and Susan Whidden of Morehead, KY; and one granddaughter, Langley Phillips of Newburgh, NY.

She is also survived by five brothers and sisters: Juanita Townsend of Jeffersonville, KY, Hattie Marie Williams (Edgar) of Frenchburg, KY, Johnnie T. Townsend (Peggy) of Douglasville, GA, Lillie Stephens of Jeffersonville, KY, and Danny Ray (Judy) Townsend of Jeffersonville, KY, and several nieces and nephews.

Scharline was a 1961 graduate of Camargo High School.  After high school, she worked the fountain at Begley Drug in Mt. Sterling. She graduated from Winchester Beauty College and worked for several years as a hairdresser, also in Mt. Sterling.  She was a 1970 graduate of Morehead State University, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.

After marrying, she became a devoted mother and homemaker.

Scharline was known for her cakes and candies that she sold for many years at Mt. Sterling Court Days and gave as gifts to family and friends. She enjoyed antiquing, working in the garden (she especially loved her daylilies), playing bridge, spending time with her family and friends and her cat Leo. She was also a long-time member and former deacon of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Morehead.

A private service for immediate family will be conducted Wednesday with Reverend Vicki Ray officiating and contributions by Reverend Merry Jones. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Honorary pallbearers are Tony Stafford, Jeff Knox, Bill Phelps and Jim Phelps.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Mack Fund or Living Memorial Fund, 227 E. Main St., Morehead, KY 40351.
