Samuel Earl Hamilton, age 85, of Ringos Mill Road, Hillsboro, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at Pioneer Trace Nursing Home in Flemingsburg, where he resided the last four months.
Born August 9, 1936, in Hillsboro, he was the son of the late Sam Hamilton and Ethel Mae Routt Hamilton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Howard, James, Elmer, Dudley, Kirby, and Freddy Hamilton, and five sisters, five sisters, Elizabeth Taylor, Dora Lee Hamilton, Mildred Meadows, Effie Baker, and Alma Irene Crawford.
Earl is survived by a host of nieces and nephews, including Phyllis “Layne” Hay of Frankfort, as well as other extended family and friends.
Earl retired from the U.S. Army after serving his country from 1958 - 1978. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal, Six Awards; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Vietnam Service Medal w/Three Bronze Service Stars; Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/Palm; and USA Recruiter Badge.
After his military service, he worked for the Department of Corrections in Tucson, Arizona, for ten years. Earl returned home to Hillsboro where he enjoyed spending time with family and friends and raising a garden. He was a member of the Hillsboro Christian Church.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday, August 8, 2022, at Hutton Funeral Home with Pastor Richard Engle and Bro. Tommy Hamm officiating.
Burial will follow at Newman Cemetery with full military honors conducted by Morehead American Legion Post 126.
