Samuel H. “Sam” Wooten, age 82, of Boodry Place, Morehead, passed away Monday, April 11, 2022, at residence.
Born October 12, 1939, in Rowan County, he was a son of the late Henry Harrison Wooten and Delphia May Byrge Wooten. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters, Jeanetta Wooten, Maude Cassity, Geneva McClurg, Rosa “Hazel” McClurg, LaVerne Winzer, and Beverly Chapman and four brothers, Earl Wooten, Paul Wooten, Clifford Wooten, and Clyde Wooten.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Kay Ward Wooten; three daughters, Shelia Kaye Hicks, Vanita Hall (Steve), and Rhonda Cassidy, all of Morehead; two step sons, Terry Spencer of Wisconsin and Randy Spencer of West Virginia; and nine grandchildren, Sammy, Corbin, Jason, Jess, Kyle, Kaitlyn, Christian, Austin, and Jordan; and eight great grandchildren, Mara, Melody, Brantley, Lucas, Harper, Lincoln, Walker, and Easton.
Other survivors include two brothers, Charles Gilbert Wooten of Morehead and David Michael Wooten of New Castle, Indiana; one sister, Sharon Blevins of Morehead; one sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law; a host of nieces and nephews; and other extended family.
Sam was a self-employed contractor and a former employee of A O Smith and Rollins Casket Factory in Indiana. He was a Christian and of the Baptist faith.
At his request, private services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2022, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Mark Caldwell officiating. Burial will follow in Crix Cemetery.
Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
