Russie Walton Butcher, age 92, of Watson Road, Hillsboro, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2019, at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead.
Born December 9, 1926, in Plummers Mill, Fleming County, he was a son of the late Bascom and Electa Vice Butcher. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Thelma Dunaway, Opal Conley, Jessie Bashford, and Mary Manning; and three brothers, Woods Butcher, Gobel Butcher, and Leo Butcher.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Lelia Florence Cooper Butcher, whom he married March 31, 1948, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Russie was a World War II U.S. Army veteran who was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, and Army of Occupation Medal Japan. He retired from General Motors in Dayton, Ohio, after 31 years with the company. He moved back to Kentucky in 1995 and enjoyed fishing, gardening, boating, camping, and traveling with his wife and family. Russie was a great Christian man and attended the Mt. Pisgah Christian Church.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, August 11, 2019, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother James DeAtley and Brother Jared DeAtley officiating. Burial will follow in Newman Cemetery with full military honors presented by Flemingsburg Franklin Sousley VFW Post 1834 and American Legion Post No. 5.
Russie’s nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, August 10, 2019, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
