Ruby Fay Alexander Sammons, age 91, of Louisa, KY, passed peacefully into eternal life on August 25, 2020, at her home after a year-long battle with lymphoma cancer. She previously resided on Auxier Road in Prestonsburg, KY.
Born June 6, 1929, in Wolfe County, KY, she was the daughter of the late Willard and Enid Netherly Alexander. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Dallas D. Sammons, whom she wed on December 25, 1949; grandson James Neil Lester; and a brother, Darrell “Bud” Alexander.
Ruby is survived by two daughters, Dallas Fay Sammons, of Morehead, KY, and Rose and Jim Lester (her favorite son-in-law) of Louisa, KY; granddaughter, Melanie Rose Lester Sparks (Jimmy) of Trussville, AL, and grandson Marc D. Lester (Morgan) of Louisa, KY; two great-grandsons, Andrew James and Matthew Neil Sparks; and one sister, Mildred Alexander Horn of Riverview Nursing Home in Prestonsburg, KY. She also leaves behind a host of family and friends who will miss her sassiness, humor, and loving kindness. Everyone loved the “Ninnie’.
She was a homemaker, accomplished seamstress, and rural mail carrier but her most important and rewarding career was as a wife, mother, Ninnie, and great-Ninnie. Having dedicated her life to the Lord in 1950, she was active in numerous area churches. She never had a conversation without letting everyone how much the Lord had blessed her with good health and family. Ruby enjoyed cruising, camping, and ‘keeping the road hot’ spending time with her family. She was always up for a road trip and would say, “If you don’t want me to go, don’t ask; I keep my bags packed.”
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the Community Hospice of Ashland, KY, staff for their kind, compassionate care: Nurse Jackie, Chaplain Jim, Debbie and Linda.
Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 29, 2020, at the Louisa United Methodist Church, Cemetery Road, Louisa, KY 41230 with the Reverend Dan Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Gardens, 4032 KY 321, Prestonsburg, KY 41653.
