Roy Lee Archer, age 92, of Open Fork Road, Morehead, passed away Sunday, May 21, 2023, at Wurtland Nursing and Rehabilitation in Wurtland, Kentucky.
Born July 10, 1930, in Olive Hill, Kentucky, Roy was the son of the late Howard Archer and Ettie Ferguson Archer. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his lifelong companion, Lucille Fraley Archer, and four siblings, Dora Starbuck, Barbara Alice Archer, Corbie Archer, and Robert Archer.
He is survived by his special grandson who was raised as a son from birth, Joey and Brandy Brewer and their daughter Kiara of Morehead; four stepchildren, Debbie and Ivan Grimshaw, Shirley Simmons, James and Judy Brewer, all of Morehead, and Robin and Randy Razor of Owingsville; and a host of grandchildren, great- and great-great grandchildren.
Also surviving are three siblings, Joyce Adkins, Willie Archer, and Gale Curtis Bryant, all of Carter County; nieces and nephews; extended family and a special friend and caregiver, Dudley Willoughby.
Roy proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of Morehead American Legion Post 126 and a longtime member of the Honor Guard. He was also a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 143 in Owingsville. Roy was a patriot and loved serving in the military and participating in veterans’ organizations.
He was a former manager of Certified Gas in Morehead and enjoyed being a farmer. While residing in Dayton, Ohio, he worked a number of years in an appliance manufacturing company. His family and many friends will miss him greatly.
A funeral service will be conducted 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals with Jared DeAtley officiating. Burial with follow at New Sill Cemetery with full military honors by Morehead American Legion Post 126. Legion members will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
