Roger Paul Smith

Roger Paul Smith, age 64, of US 60 East, Morehead, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2019, at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead.

Born February 18, 1955, in Morgan County, he is the son of Leona Reynolds Smith of Blairs Mill and the late Lawrence Earl Smith.  In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one sister, Vickie Bolin.

Roger is survived by his wife, Donna Flannery Smith, whom he married April 13, 1974; two daughters, Olivia (Brian) Glover of Morehead and Heather Smith of Lexington; and three grandchildren, Madison Glover, Wyatt Glover, and Kaden Beasley.

Also surviving are his mother, Leona Reynolds Smith, and two brothers, Arlie Smith, and Tim Smith and wife Renée, all of Blairs Mill, and one sister, Elvona Litton of Sandy Hook, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. 

Roger graduated from Morgan County Senior High School in 1973 and shortly thereafter began a career in construction work that spanned more than 30 years.  Following graduation, Roger helped his father in construction until 1988 when he started his own company, Roger Smith Construction Company, which he owned and operated until 2007.  At that time, he and Donna purchased Smith’s General Store on US 60 West and ran the store until his retirement in 2010.  A well-known and respected carpenter, his work is visible throughout the community.   Roger enjoyed the U.K. Wildcats, watching horse racing, and going to Keeneland.  He greatly enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren, and attending the First Free Will Baptist Church.  He will be missed by all who knew him. 

Funeral services will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jason Litton and Pastor Joey Damron officiating.  Burial will be in Brown Cemetery.
