Rev. Stanley Gilliam Hutchinson, 93, of Winchester, formerly of Mt. Sterling, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Rev. Hutchinson was born July 16, 1931, in Elliott County, Kentucky, a son of the late Thurman Hutchinson and Audrey Gilliam (Hutchinson). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Eileen Hutchinson; one brother, Delmas “Delbert” Hutchinson; and a special son-in-law, Bill Martin.
Rev. Hutchinson is survived by his devoted wife, Alma Leah Finch Hutchinson, whom he married May 21, 1965; dedicated children: Eugene Hutchinson, Joan Hutchinson Martin, Joyce (Pastor Kevin) Collins, and Pastor Allan (Pastor Michelle) Hutchinson; precious grandchildren: Pastor Stephen (Mandy) Collins, Pastor Stephanie (Steve) Niemoeller, Brad (Madison) Hutchinson, and Brandon Hutchinson (fiancée, Shelbie Hanson); and dear great-grandchildren: Noah Benton Hutchinson and Arlo Foster Hutchinson.
Others to cherish his memory include two siblings: Ernest “Ernie” Hutchinson and Edith Hutchinson Daniel; nieces and nephews; extended family; and a multitude of others whose lives he touched during his earthly journey.
Rev. Hutchinson faithfully served the Church for 68 years in ministry - 55 years with the Church of God, Anderson, Indiana. Through his life, he invested in the people of his congregations whom he, and his wife, Alma, loved dearly. His influence extends to many young men and women called into vocational ministry, five of whom are in his immediate family today. Rev. Hutchinson served congregations in Ohio, North Carolina, Tennessee and Kentucky. The passion and anointing of his ministry was to see people come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. Throughout his life he held countless revivals and camp meetings across the United States experiencing many conversions.
Rev. Hutchinson was lovingly devoted to his family. His wife, Alma, was his partner in ministry and throughout their time they were inseparable as they served the local church. Along with Alma, he was his family’s (and many friends’) biggest prayer warrior and encourager. His prayers will continue to bear fruit long after his passing. His children will be the first to tell you their view and understanding of God was established through his life and witness; then he led each one of them to know Jesus Christ as Lord and baptized them. Today, his legacy continues through his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Rev. Hutchinson was a patriot--he loved the United States of America serving in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954. During his service he was awarded two Bronze Stars and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was always thankful for this time in his life because it helped him as a young man to mature, develop leadership skills and set parameters that would guide him the rest of his life. When God brought him home safely, he was determined to use the skills learned in the service of his country in the service of his Lord.
