Rev. Billy Harmon Obituary

Rev. Billy Harmon, age 83, of Poplar Plains Road, Flemingsburg, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 19, 2021, at Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville.

Born January 17, 1938, in Fleming County, he was one of five sons born to the late Hansel and Willa Mae Williams Harmon.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and James Harmon.

On November 16, 1960, Billy was united in marriage to his loving wife of 59 years, Linda Lou Bailey Harmon, who met her Lord and Savior on January 18, 2020. They were parents to two sons, Jeff Harmon and wife Tabatha of Muses Mill and Mike Harmon and wife Gaye of Owingsville; six grandchildren, Aaron Harmon, Andrew Harmon, Elizabeth Harmon Watkins and husband Kyle, Hannah Harmon, Justin Conley and wife Christa, and Blake Conley; two great granddaughters, Kyleigh Harmon and Adeline Lou Watkins; and one great grandson, Brax Conley.

Others who will cherish his memory are two brothers, Earl Harmon and wife Joan and Jackie Harmon and wife Brenda, all of Flemingsburg, as well as nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Billy was a devoted Christian whose earthly journey was guided daily by his heavenly father. He preached God’s truth through his words and his actions day after day.  He faithfully read God’s word every morning and would gladly share the word at any given opportunity.  A student of the Bible, he could quote scripture, chapter and verse for any given situation--from memory!

A Christian for more than 60 years and a pastor for 53 years and 6 months, Billy served as pastor at Petersville First Church of God in Lewis County, West Bend First Church of God in Powell County, and at his beloved East Fork Church of God in Bath County. Billy took his ministry very seriously and was available to anyone day or night.  Billy and the love of his life Linda were a team. She supported Billy and their church family and was actively involved in all aspects of the church.  Billy loved spending time inside and outside the church building.  He could be found sweeping, pulling weeds, or washing down the front of the building. Prior to COVID, he filled Sunday afternoons visiting hospitals, nursing homes, and shut-ins who were no longer able to get to church. Billy loved God and never tired of spreading His word.

Second only to God, Billy was dedicated to his family.  He was a loving husband, father, and the best papaw in the world.  After retiring from the rock quarry in Fleming County where he worked for 46 years (the only job he ever had), Billy really enjoyed spending extra time with Linda and performing chores for Jeff and Mike.  His presence will be sorely missed in his pulpit and in the homes of his family and in the hearts of his church family and friends.  While he will be greatly missed here on earth, Billy finally achieved his lifelong goal of a heavenly home.  He was surely greeted with the words “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at East Fork Church of God with the Rev. Terry Frerichs and the Rev. Lowell Rice officiating.  Burial will follow in Longview Cemetery in Bethel.
