Rebecca Ballard Obituary

Rebecca Michelle “Boo” Ballard was born November 5, 1975, to Frank Ballard and the late Gayle Burch Ballard. She passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve morning in the presence of her wonderful and compassionate Life Care family where she had resided since July 12, 2011.

Boo was well loved by Life Care residents, nurses, staff, and CEO Bill Hurst, where she thoroughly enjoyed playing pranks on everyone.  She was especially fond of Bill Hurst, and would sit outside his office door guarding who could or could not enter! She loved her “Bedroom” at Life Care where she thrived on being as independent as she could possibly be. She would delightfully share a warning of “Don’t Fall” to passersby, then laugh hysterically if someone stumbled as if expecting an imminent fall!

Boo always made her presence known and left an indelible memory on each and every person who met her.  It never ceased to amaze her parents that anywhere they traveled, a happy-faced stranger would approach and say, “How’s Boo doing? and then relate how they knew our Boo.

Boo was tough as nails and faced adversity head-on.  She would then hit the reset button, and with a toy or stuffed animal in her right hand, plow ahead with fierce determination.  She loved nothing better than drinking a Pepsi and anyone gifting her with a Pepsi became her instant best friend.  When she would see a company transport truck with a Pepsi logo on the side, she would point and say “My Drink”. Boo always made sure of where her next Pepsi was coming from.

Her father, Frank was her greatest hero and tireless advocate and supporter.  She referred to him lovingly as “Daddy” when she wanted something or was trying to get out of trouble, or “Poor Frank” when she was teasing him.  Whatever she called him, he was ALWAYS there for whatever she needed.  She grew up with many cousins and neighborhood friends, and was not one to shy away from any ongoing activities.  Boo was determined to be in the middle of all the action, always just “one of the gang”.

Boo is survived by her parents, Frank and Peggy “Penny” Ballard; a sister, Megan “Shu-me” Ballard Phelps and husband Mike “Shu-me’s Honey”; one brother, Christopher “Chris” Ballard; two step brothers, Michael Kidd and wife Lehnanne and Mitchell “Paul” Sterling and wife Ashley; two nieces, Grace Phelps and Nova Sterling; three nephews, Colin Phelps, Beau Phelps, and Mars Sterling, as well as aunts, uncles, numerous cousins and friends.

So, on Christmas Eve 2022, a bell rang and angel Boo got her wings! She, along with her mother Gayle, will always be remembered in a special place in our hearts.
