Pearl Dean Lewis Barker, age 96, of Short Street, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at her son’s home where she had resided for the past two years.
She was born October 12, 1928, in Olive Hill, Kentucky, daughter of the late Charles Oscar and Pearlie Dean Lewis. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers.
Pearl’s loving husband of 58 years, John D. Barker, a Pearl Harbor survivor, whom she wed December 6, 1952, passed away December 6, 2010. She is survived by one son, Scott Barker and his wife Fran Barker of Morehead, Kentucky; two grandsons, Brandon Scott Barker and Logan Seth Barker and his wife Alexis, all of Morehead; and four great grandchildren, Fielding, Finely, Greyson, and Greylynn.
Other survivors include several nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Pearl was a member of the Sharkey Baptist Church and was always active in her church, even when she was growing up in Olive Hill. She always sang in the choir and in different groups and specials. She taught Sunday school, led the choir, was treasurer for the church auxiliary, and belonged to Keenagers and Senior citizens. She was a member of Sweet Adelines for approximately 15 years and was a volunteer for many groups including the American Red Cross Bloodmobile and the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). Pearl was a secretary for many years in Mansfield, Ohio, and in Morehead. She loved her family and wanted them to know she would be waiting for them at Jesus’ feet.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday, September 15, 2025, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Harley Sexton, Jr., officiating. Burial will follow in the Barker Cemetery in Elliott County, Kentucky, with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, September 15, 2025, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
