Patsy Boodry Obituary

Patsy Lee Potter Boodry was born February 25, 1931, in Raceland, Kentucky, and passed away January 15, 2022, at Community Hospice in Ashland.

The first-born daughter of Ida and Lester Potter, Patsy grew up in Raceland and graduated from Raceland High School, where she was valedictorian of her senior class.  She attended Eastern Kentucky University but returned to Raceland where she met her future husband, Glen Boodry, who preceded her in death in 2004.  Her only sibling, Shirley Potter Hamilton, passed away in 2014.

During their 46 years of marriage, Patsy and Glen grew their family to five children:  Jerry David (Geneva) of Greenup, Thomas Glen (deceased 2015) (Sally) of Pace, FL, Leslie Carol Wilcox (David) of San Antonio, James Franklin (deceased 1981) and Brian Lee (Diane) of Brookfield, CT.  Patsy is also survived by seven grandchildren:  Courtney Boodry, Amanda Boodry Duncan, Leslie Boodry Hartnett, Thomas Boodry, Kelsey Wilcox Harris, Nicholas Wilcox, Jeb Boodry and Jackson Boodry, and two great-grandchildren: Jack Duncan and Henry Hartnett.

After their marriage, the family moved frequently, living in Kansas, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Florida and South Carolina.  The family then settled in Morehead in 1969, immersed themselves in the community, and have called the area home ever since.

Patsy returned to school and completed her college education at Morehead State University at the age of 40.  Throughout her years in Morehead, Patsy worked as a substitute teacher, church secretary at Morehead United Methodist Church, in the admissions office at Morehead State University, as office manager for Braughler Construction Co., and then for the State of Kentucky as a social worker, from which she retired in 1993.

She was an avid gardener and, at one point, turned her love of plants into a small, home-based business.  She loved playing bridge with friends, square dancing with Glen and traveling.  She particularly enjoyed seeing unfamiliar parts of the world on her many cruises with family and friends.

Patsy was an active member in several organizations in the community including Painted Hills Garden Club, Career Women Investors, and Morehead Woman’s Club.  She was also a member of the United Methodist Church and served her faith as a Sunday School teacher, lay leader, and as a participant of various committees within the church.
