Oscar Lee Gamble, age 98, of Tower Road, Clearfield, passed away Friday, June 11, 2021, at his home.
Born May 22, 1923, at Blairs Mill in Morgan County, he was the son of the late Jesse and Martha Stegall Gambill. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Sarah Christine Pelfrey Gamble, whom he married November 27, 1948, and their children: Paul Gamble of Clearfield, Ronald Gamble of Taylor, Michigan, Debra Gamble Cully and Diane Gamble, both of Naples, Florida. Other survivors include 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren—with an additional great-granddaughter to arrive really soon—and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Oscar was a proud U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and retired from Marathon Oil after working more than 20 years in Michigan. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge and was a Kentucky Colonel. An excellent carpenter, Oscar built several houses, including the family home in Taylor, Michigan. His flawless work was admired by other craftsmen. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose legacy will continue though the lives of his loving family. He will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jeremy Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Crix Cemetery with full military honors by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126. Grandsons and family will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, June 14, 2021, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
