Norma Foliotti Hogge, a long-time resident of Kentucky and widow of Judge Elijah Monroe Hogge, passed away peacefully at Lexington Country Place, in Lexington, KY, on Saturday, April 18, 2020.
Mrs. Hogge fought the increasing limitation of advanced age with bravery and good humor. She was 100 years old.
Born March 22, 1920, in Oakland California, Norma was the second born daughter of the late Romildo Foliotti and Clementina Valerio Foliotti. Her father was known in San Francisco as an architect and builder for fifty years. Her sister, Eva Theresa Houston, preceded her in death in 2007. Nora is survived by Eva’s two sons, Douglas Houston of Sparks, Nevada, and William Houston of Reno, Nevada.
Norma was a graduate of Galileo High School as well as San Francisco Teachers College. On September 15, 1945, Norma married Elijah Monroe Hogge in San Francisco. He was then a full Lieutenant in the United States Navy. Following the war, they returned to Kentucky.
Norma was preceded in death by their daughter, Tina Leslie Hogge in 1960, and later their son, Elijah Monroe Francis Hogge, Jr, in 1966. Judge Hogge died October 29, 1996. Norma continued to live happily and independently for 24 years pursuing her many interests of Arts, Garden Clubs, Chi Omega Alumnae, golf, tennis, and dancing competitively with Fred Astaire Studio of Sarasota which took her to Italy, France, Spain and Cuba—also winning many firsts in her age group. Norma traveled around the world by private jet; her true love was Japanese painting.
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, a private graveside service and burial will be conducted Friday, April 24, 2020, at Lee Cemetery with the Reverend Arturo Molina officiating. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
