Nelma (Hanes) Riley

Nelma Hanes Riley, age 77, of Bullfork Road, Morehead, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2025, at UK-St. Clare HealthCare in Morehead.

She was born September 21, 1947, in Rowan County, the daughter of the late Edgar and Elizabeth Adkins Hanes.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Bobby, Kenneth, Denvil, and Billy and five sisters, Joyce, Pearl, Margie, Carolyn, and Mary.

Nelma is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Donnie Riley, Sr., whom she married January 3, 1964; one son, Donnie Riley, Jr. (Marty) of Carter County; four daughters, Bonnie Gibbs (Michael) of Garrison, Nancy Clem of Morehead, Melissa Riley (Barron) of Jeffersonville, and Cindy Riley-Rose of Jeffersonville.

She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Cody Centers, Jonathan Ramey (Brennan), Kelly Burnham (Gerald), Sandy O’Boyle (Edward), Mahala Riley (Jim), Michael Jarrod Gibbs (Xiaotang), Jennifer Little (Josh), Zachary Riley (Jessica); and four great-grandchildren, Jazmine Allen, Timothy Allen, Annalei Allen, and Benjamin O’Boyle, as well as extended family and many friends.

In addition to being a conscientious homemaker, Nelma was a former employee of St. Claire Medical Center, Cintas in Owingsville, and Wal-Mart.  She enjoyed reading, Facebook, and researching genealogy. Most of all, she enjoyed being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.  She will be greatly missed and remembered with love.

Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Bro. Joe Riley officiating. Burial will follow in Fultz Cemetery in Carter County.

Pallbearers will be Cody Centers, Jonathan Ramey, Brennan Barnes, Gerald Burnham, Barron Centers, and Aiden Holland. 

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2025, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 403531
