Michael Lee Smedley

Michael Lee Smedley, age 66, of Dry Creek Road, Clearfield, passed away Monday, September 2, 2024, at UK St. Claire Hospital in Morehead.

Born May 23, 1958, in Marlette, Michigan, he was a son of the late Wilburn Ray Smedley and Mary Louise Grimshaw Smedley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 16 years, Donna Jean Hatton Smedley on November 20, 2009.

He is survived by three daughters, Krista Smedley of Clearfield, Whitley Smedley of South Shore, and Ashley Scott and husband Hagan of Columbia, Kentucky; one son, C. J. Smedley of Hawaii; two grandchildren, Ayden Smedley and Braxton Scott; and an expected grandson, Joseph Scott in February.

Other survivors include three brothers, Ronald Smedley and wife Tamme of Cincinnati, Ohio, Steven Smedley and wife Jackye of Clearfield, and Timothy Smedley of West Liberty; two sisters, Susan Wilson and husband Doug of North Carolina, and Brenda Miles and husband Robert of Nicholasville; a special friend, Junior Dillon of Clearfield; several nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.

As a young man, he and his brothers grew up working on cars at Lakeview Garage owned by their father. He was a self-employed mechanic and was most proud on his garage and the name “Ole Farts Garage ”. Mike was a former employee for A. O. Smith, Cooper Tire, Morehead Walmart, and a maintenance employee for 11 years at Latter-day Saints in Owingsville.

Mike enjoyed going to car shows, finding and eating at new restaurants, and liked to joke around and if he didn’t like you, he would not aggravate you. Most of all, he loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He will be remembered and missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Cecil Ison officiating.  Burial will follow in the Smedley Family Cemetery.  In honor of Mike and his love for classic cars, you are invited to drive your own classic in the procession to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kacie Vancleve, Junior Dillon, Matt Oesch, Kris Barnett, Steve Smedley, and John Northcutt. His grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at   Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
