Michael Fannin Obituary

Michael Ora Fannin, age 79, of Pennington Flat Road, Morehead, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2024, at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead.

He was born May 4, 1945, in Lexington, Kentucky, and was a son of the late William Claude Fannin, Jr. and Ruby Lee Kegley Fannin.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Talmadge “J. T.” Fannin and William Conrad “Bill” Fannin, and one sister, Connie Leigh Crisp.

Michael is survived by his wife of 57 years, Della Kay Caudill Fannin, whom he married March 3, 1967; one son, Jeffrey Fannin and wife Tashena of Lexington; one daughter, Dana Fannin of Morehead; and three grandchildren, Allie Fannin of Morehead, Rheya Fannin and Kaius Maradik, both of Lexington.

Other survivors include one sister, Joan Sergent and husband Charlie of Mt. Sterling; sister-in-law, Kay Utterback Fannin of Morehead; many nieces and nephews, as well as extended family and many friends.

A U.S. Army veteran serving during Vietnam from July 1968 to June 1970, he was an infantryman and a clerk for 93rd EVAC Hospital. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Army Commendation. Mike graduated from Morehead State University with a B.S. Degree in Industrial Technology and a minor in business.

A loyal employee of Tennessee Gas Pipeline for 43 years, Mike started with the company as a participant in its summer work program for college students. He worked from 1970 until 2013 and later returned as a contractor until 2016.

An excellent carpenter, Mike built his family home and could fix almost anything. He loved antiques and was an avid clock and antique car collector.  He never met a stranger, loved to argue with anyone that would argue back, and always had a story to tell.

But, most of all, he loved and enjoyed spending time and aggravating his grandchildren. Mike will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Charles Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with full military honors presented by Morehead American Legion Post 126.

Pallbearers:  Jackie Thomas, Mike Thomas, Denver Lykins, Darrell Lykins, Reece Earlywine, Kaden Earlywine, Dustin Crisp, Adam Earlywine, and Darin Sergent.
