Maxine Hamilton Stacy, age 73, of Morehead Road, Flemingsburg, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at her home with her family by her side.
When you are told you have stage 4 ovarian cancer, you can write your own obituary. I never did like the standard obituary format.
On June 19, 1950, at Ringo Mills, Fleming County, Kentucky, my parents Arlie Lee Hamilton and Nina Ethel Hamilton were blessed with a baby girl. They named me Maxine, after my aunt. My grandfather said to name me Maxine after my aunt because we both cried a lot. I was welcomed home by my 3 siblings: my sister Mattie Lou Hamilton, my brother Chester Ray Hamilton (Monnie), and my brother John Dan Hamilton (Kathy). Two years later my family was blessed with a baby boy, Harold Lloyd Hamilton.
I lived in Fleming County for 8 years. Later in third grade I moved to Rowan County. I attended Haldeman Elementary and graduated from Rowan County High. I was the only 1 of 4 siblings to attend college and graduated with a BA and Master’s degree. In 1973, God blessed me with a teaching job at Fleming County. At this time teaching jobs were hard to get.
After 3 ½ years I met the love of my life, Charles Ray Stacy, and married October 18, 1980. Later, with God’s timing and blessing, God blessed Charles and I with a son, Andrew Thomas Stacy (Beth) and a daughter, Tiffany Dawn Stacy Pickrell (Justin). God has also blessed me with 3 wonderful grandchildren, Margaret Grace (Maggie) Stacy, Everett Charles Stacy, and Porter Arlo Pickrell.
I can say I haven’t done anything exciting; I have tried to be a good mother, wife, mother-in-law, and grandmother. I loved to crochet. I made many afghans and gave them away. I loved to travel, to be with family, and play the piano. I never became a great pianist. I guess God decided that was not my gift. Still, I enjoyed my playing and singing for myself.
My parents and all siblings have gone on before me with my last sibling passing in December 2017.
Public graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, September 2, 2023, Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with Brother Greg Hignite and Brother James DeAtley officiating.
Pallbearers: Kyle Watkins, Eric Hamilton, Daniel Smith, Chris Hignite, Matt Hall, Blake Nickell, Anthony Stacy, and Joey Staggs.
At Maxine’s request, a private visitation will be held.
