Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Middleton Cox, age 72, of Hurst Road, Wallingford, passed away Sunday, August 22, 2021, at her home.
Born August 6, 1949, at Sharkey, in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late John Tomas and Nancy Elizabeth Gulley Middleton. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers: Moe, Earsel, Troy, Wilbert, and Andrew Middleton; five sisters, Darlene, Peggy Ann, Delpha, June Pearl, and Mirl; and a grandson, Zachary Maddox.
Libby is survived by her husband of 45 years, Craig Cox; two daughters, Marsha Shawn Craft of Wallingford and Judith “Lynn” Workman of Muses Mill, and a great niece whom she raised as a daughter, Rebecca Mae Middleton of Wallingford; and two grandchildren, Peyton Craft and Cody McVey.
Other survivors include two sisters, Bonnie Brabant of Goshen, Ohio, and Pat Hayes of Monroe, Ohio, as well as numerous nieces and nephews; extended family; and friends.
Libby retired from Cowden Mfg. and enjoyed camping, fishing, working puzzles, and watching videos—just recently she became interested in watching “monkey rescues.” Libby loved frogs and enjoyed collecting anything “froggy.” She loved spending time with the family, especially the grandchildren, and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was of the Christian faith and will be greatly missed.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, August 28, 2021, at Pea Ridge Community Church, 1485 Spring Road, Wallingford, with Pastor Elijah Sexton officiating. Visitation will be from 12 noon until 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will follow in Cox Cemetery.
