Mary Evelyn (Alford) York

Mary Evelyn Alford York, age 76, of Wyoming Road, Owingsville, Kentucky, passed away Monday, September 4, 2023, at Windsor Care Center in Mt. Sterling.

She was born February 20, 1947, in Texarkana, Texas, to the late Oscar Alford and Laura Belle Jones Alford.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmie Alford and Mike Alford, and one sister, Sheila Walls and her husband Terry.

Mary is survived by her devoted husband, Gary Ivan York, whom she wed July 13, 1968; three dedicated sons, Jodie Griffin and wife Kara of Roman Forest, Texas, Gary York, Jr. and wife Jeannine of Lexington, Kentucky, and Jason York and wife Michelle of Owingsville, Kentucky; and three precious grandchildren, Gracie Griffin, Sierra Sussman, and Mackenzie Sussman.

Mary enjoyed living life to the fullest and making many wonderful memories with her family, particularly her grandchildren. She enjoyed various activities including feeding her ducks and wildlife, gardening, riding her golf cart and A.T.V. and attending Bluegrass festivals with Gary.  She also enjoyed reading and playing cards, Dominos and other board games.  She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who will be greatly missed and forever remembered.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.  At Mary’s request, a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
