Marlin Ray “Marty” Chapman, age 81, of Pleasant Valley, Morehead, passed away Friday, January 21, 2022, at St. Claire HealthCare.
He was born July 5, 1940, in Montgomery County, a son of Clyde J. Chapman and Lottie Stamper Chapman Myers and her husband, Van Myers. In addition to his parents and stepfather, Marty was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Chapman and James Chapman.
Marty is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gail Jean Kelsey Chapman; five children, Lisa (Dennis) Strickland of Englewood, Florida, Richard “Rick” (Becky) Hurst of Sarasota, Florida, Timothy Ray (Frankie) Chapman of Morehead, Rhonda Coleman (Michael) of Swansea, South Carolina, Mark (Sherrie) Chapman of Midland; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one half-brother, Charles Chapman of Means; extended family; and many friends.
Marty was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Ironworkers Local 769 in Ashland. He also owned and operated Chapman Fencing for a number of years. He was a member of Morehead Masonic Lodge No. 654, El Hasa Shrine in Ashland, and Morehead American Legion Post No. 126. Marty enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time with family and friends. Spending winters in Florida provided many special memories for the family.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jeff Fannin officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with full military honors presented by Morehead American Legion Post 126. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, January 24, 2022, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351. Masonic rites will be presented at 7 p.m. Monday by Morehead Masonic Lodge No. 654.
