Marlene Louise Padula, age 80, of Sharkey Road, passed away Friday, February 7, 2020, at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead.
Born August 17, 1939, in Newark, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Francis Valask and Florence Newton Valask.
On April 6, 1956, Marlene was united in marriage to James Victor Padula, Sr., who preceded her in death on January 15, 2008, after 51 years of devoted love. Their son, Michael Frances Padula, passed away on June 10, 2012.
She is survived by one son, James “Jay”” (Lydia) Padula of Clearfield; three daughters, Michele Coston of Indianapolis, Indiana, Jacquelyn (Danny) Caudill of Morehead, and Karyn (John) Krueger of Johnson City, Tennessee; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; extended family; and dear friends.
Marlene was a patient representative at St. Claire Regional Medical Center for 28 years and a former secretary at Jesus Our Savior Catholic Church. Although she enjoyed reading, gardening, and cooking, her greatest joy was her family—especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom she adored.
Marlene dedicated her life to serving the Lord and family. She has touched many in the community with her smile and kindness to others. Her favorite quote, “It’s nice to be nice,” is a reflection of her inner beauty. Her life was an inspiration to all she touched and will long be treasured.
A funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at Jesus Our Savior Catholic Church (315 Battson Avenue, Morehead) with the Rev. Arturo Molina officiating. Burial will follow at the Caudill Cemetery on Sharkey Road.
Grandsons Anthony, Russell, D. J., Ryan, Eric, and Curtis will serve as pallbearers. Ethan will be an honorary pallbearer.
Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, February 10, 2020, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Morehead State University Foundation, Inc., Michael Padula Memorial Fund, 150 University Blvd., Box 1887, Morehead, KY 40351. Donations will be used to support students at the Derrickson Agricultural Complex (MSU Farm).
