Margaret DeRouen Patton, age 94, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2021, in Bardstown, Kentucky.
Born in Reserve, Louisiana, to her father Suly and her mother Noemie Horn DeRouen. Margaret Patton lived in Morehead and worked as an associate professor of sociology at Morehead State University.
While at MSU she founded the KY Chapter of Pi Gamma Mu Honor Society in 1969 and Chapter 148 of Phi Kappa Phi in 1972. She also established the Margaret Patton Scholarship.
After 40 years at MSU, Margaret enjoyed her retirement by being involved in community service and volunteer opportunities. She was on the board of Domestic Violence Emergency Shelter (DOVES), donated to food banks and other organizations. She also enjoyed traveling with her sister and other family members, adopted dogs, and grew beautiful flower gardens. Margaret will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, her loving heart and her faith.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Suly and Noemie Horn DeRouen; a sister, Noemie DeRouen; and her husband, Dr. Ben K. Patton, Jr., Professor Emeritus, MSU.
She is survived by a daughter, Lauren Furnish of Bardstown; a son, Christopher Patton (Liahana) of Lakeland, Florida; three grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Cremation was preferred and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
