Lowell Murray Obituary

Lowell Vernon Murray, 92, life-long resident of Rowan County passed away February 7, 2021, at Hospice of Hope Care Center in Maysville, Kentucky.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy Jean Mynhier Murray; his daughter-in-law, Debbie Murray of Morehead; grandson David and wife Lindsey Murray, Hebron, KY; granddaughter, Stephanie and husband Jay Emmons, Flemingsburg, KY; five great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Sydney Murray, Calvin Dehart, Trace and Tyson Emmons; and two brothers Glennis and wife Elizabeth Murray, Fayetteville, OH and Jimmy Murray, Winchester, KY and beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Addie Mabry and Earl Murray; one brother, Elmo Murray; and his son, Lowell Dean Murray.

Mr. Murray was a successful lifelong dairy, cattle and tobacco farmer and a Korean War Veteran. He was always at the forefront of agricultural innovations, one of the first farmers to adopt no-till farming to prevent soil erosion. He was known for having the best tobacco crops in the county. He loved the farm and was well respected by fellow farmers and university agricultural specialists and industry leaders for his quest for improving agricultural and environmental practices of the time.

He was deeply loved by his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family who respected him for his strong presence in their lives. He was a believer in education and as a result his children and grandchildren became educators, business leaders and most importantly successful adults and parents.

A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, February 12, 2021, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Cecil Ison officiating. Full military honors will be presented by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
