Leneva Arnett Obituary

Leneva Poe Arnett, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed peacefully into Heaven on Saturday, June 20, 2020, at her home.  She was 99 years old.

She was born on November 10, 1920, the third child of eleven, to the Reverend Byrd and Jonie Patrick Poe.  In addition to her parents, Leneva was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Bill J. Arnett; three brothers, Robert, Noble, and Paul Poe; and three sisters, Bonnie Poe, Wilma Jean Bradford, and Marie Salyer.

Survivors include her three children, Ann Warren (Gorman) of Georgetown, Helen Northcutt (Denny) of Morehead, and Grover Arnett (Suzanne) of Salyersville; five grandchildren, Kimberly Warren Meier, John Northcutt (Tina), David Warren (Suzanne), Elizabeth Arnett Stigers (Larry), and Bryan Arnett; nine great grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Meier, Victoria, Alexandria and Natalie Northcutt, Emily Warren Armstrong, David Gorman Warren, Lauren Stigers, and Wyatt Arnett, and two great-great grandchildren, Ian and Sophia Armstrong.  Others left to mourn her passing are two brothers, Silas and Henry Poe; two sisters, Polly Howes, and Emma Jo Britton; and many nieces, nephews, and friends, especially Sally Jones, who took such loving care of her.

Being one of the oldest, Leneva spent much of her youth helping with the younger children and learning skills that would be so important to her throughout her life.  She learned to cook, sew, quilt, needlepoint and raise garden vegetables of all kinds.  She was a perfectionist in all she did and those who knew her can vouch for her attention to detail.

Raised by a Pentecostal preacher and a loving Christian mother, Leneva spent many hours in church and was saved at an early age. She attended other churches but when she found Bradley Freewill Baptist, she knew she was home.  She joined on April 1, 1956 and continued to attend every service possible for the next 64 years.  She often said it was her favorite place to be.

Second only to the Lord was her love for Bill and her family.  She would sometimes reminisce about working at the sewing factory in Royalton when a handsome fellow on a horse made sure he caught her eye. Times were tough but love and hard work prevailed and they were married on July 9, 1938.  They were blessed with three children who completed her life.  Leneva and Bill’s marriage lasted even beyond his death in 1992.  She remained devoted to him until she died.

Imagine living for ten decades and being a part of all the changes the world has seen. She used to communicate with her friends as she walked to work on the railroad track. Now she was able to keep in touch as she sat in her power recliner and scrolled through Facebook on her iPad.  She was the picture of a lady for all ages.

Often referred to as classy, meticulous, and caring, Leneva felt her greatest accomplishment was raising successful children and grandchildren.  She was so proud of all their activities, travels, and accomplishments.

Although she often wondered why the Lord allowed her to live so long, we are all very grateful that He did.  Her legacy of hard work, honesty and devotion to God and family will sustain us, and we look forward to the day that we will see her again.
