Lee McClurg Obituary

 

Lee Roy McClurg, age 78, of Old Baptist Road, in Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Friday, April 16, 2021, at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead, Kentucky.

 

He was born on March 25, 1943, in Richmond, Indiana, to the late Harry Hurston McClurg and Geneva Wooten McClurg.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Lavina Chapman and Virginia North, and nieces, Deborah Sloan Oviedo and Milicent Carol Chapman Johnson.

 

He is survived by his wife, Julia Pennington McClurg, whom he married on September 6, 1997.  He is also survived by his sister, Phyllis Hileman and husband Harold of Arcanum, Ohio.  Also surviving are his sons, Bruce McClurg and wife Rhonda of Florida, Danny Ray McClurg and wife Patti of Morehead, and Roy Derreck McClurg and fiancée Jessica Kenney of Chattanooga, Tennessee; and his daughters, Gelenia Joy Bailey and husband Chad of Sadieville, Kentucky, and Dawn Nicole McClurg of Salt Lick, Kentucky.

 

Also surviving are grandchildren, Kristi Leigh McClurg Buckmaster, Bruce Lee McClurg and wife Brittany, Ian Lee McClurg, Alexis Jade McClurg, Enchantment Nicole McClurg, and Cameron McClurg, and eight great grandchildren.

 

Surviving nephews are Randy Chapman of Morehead, Kentucky, Billy Chapman of Salt Lick, Kentucky, Marty Poston and Mark Poston of New Madison, Ohio.

 

He is also survived by several stepchildren including Steve Meadows, Johnny Meadows, Harley Meadows, and Melody M. Lambert of Salt Lick, Kentucky, and Kathy Burton, Lisa Jones, and David M. Wright II of Morehead, Kentucky.

 

Lee Roy enjoyed playing his guitar and singing country music.  In his younger days, he would get on his CB Radio and take requests.  His handle was Guardrail.  In recent years, he enjoyed watching westerns on TV and the birds, rabbits, and deer that found their way to his yard.

 

He was a retired carpenter and cement mason. Lee Roy worked for D. L. Braughler Company, Inc. of Morehead, Kentucky, for most of his career. 

 

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals with Pastor Elijah Sexton officiating.  Burial will follow in the Pennington Cemetery on Big Brushy Road in Morehead. 

 

Pallbearers:  Danny McClurg, Bruce McClurg, Derreck McClurg, Tommy Pennington, and David M. Wright II.  Honorary pallbearers:  Lowell Pennington, Jr., Dennis Pennington, Dennis Pennington, Jr., Eddie Curtis, Billy Curtis, and Charles Curtis.

 

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.

 

COVID-19 regulations, including masks and social distancing, will be observed.
