Junior Ray “Bug” Royse, age 78, of Oak Grove Road, Morehead, passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at his residence.
Born January 28, 1943, in Elliottville, he was a son of the late Dorsey William and Drotha Trent Royse. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald B. Royse, and an infant sister, Edna Royse.
Bug is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Canafax Royse; one son, Jackie Royse; two daughters, Rhonda Royse and Kayla Royse; one sister, Patricia Royse Kidd, all of Morehead. Other survivors include four grandchildren, Justin (Jessica) Sloan, Hope Sloan, Judy Adkins, and Dalton Jent; two great granddaughters, Madison Sloan and Casey Greer, and James Sloan, whom he considered a grandson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Bug was self-employed heavy equipment operator and was known as a hard worker throughout the region. He had a passion for all types of heavy equipment but especially enjoyed operating his dozer. He was also a logger and farmer and enjoyed being outdoors whether he was working, hunting, fishing, or just enjoying nature in general. He loved being with his family and friends and will be greatly missed and remembered with love.
Funeral services will be conducted 12 noon Saturday, July 24, 2021, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Herbert D. Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Trent Cemetery on Rainbow Road.
Pallbearers: Chris Kidd, Dalton Jent, Roger Trent, Bob Reynolds, Elmo Stigall, Jr., Justin Sloan, Jay Trent, and Tim Kidd.
Honorary pallbearers: Clifford Porter, Wilburn Jennings, and Lonnie Dowdy.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2021, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
