Julia Ann Martin (née Murphy) passed away on June 28, 2024, in Morehead, KY, at the age of 80. Born on December 11, 1943, in Peru, IN, to the late Elvin Banks and Norma Eileen Murphy, Julia led a life marked by devotion to her community, church and loved ones.
Raised in Denver, IN, Julia graduated from Mexico High School where she was an involved student including cheerleading and working in the library (Unfortunately, she was relieved of her duties in the library due to her excessive talking. Everyone was Julia's friend.) She attended the University of Colorado in Boulder before returning to Indiana to marry her high school sweetheart, Phil Martin, June 15, 1963. She embarked on a fulfilling career as a mother and homemaker that started in Findlay, OH (1963-1966); took her to Fort Wayne, IN (1966-1972), Lexington, KY (1972-1988) and finally landing in Morehead, KY. She worked for KET (Kentucky Educational Television) on the Morehead State University campus from 1994 until 2008.
A deeply committed Christian, Julia was an active member of the Morehead United Methodist Church. Her faith was expressed through her involvement in various church activities; she sang in the choir and played the piano. Julia also dedicated her time to volunteering at Christian Social Services and was a proud member of P.E.O., a philanthropic organization focused on advancing women's education.
Julia is survived by her loving husband, Phillip Martin; her children, Troy Martin and Heather Reynolds (née Martin), married to Harlan Reynolds; her brother, Royce Murphy; and her cherished grandchildren, Rachel Martin, Phillip Martin, and Ty Reynolds. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elvin and Norma Murphy, and her brother, Carter Murphy.
Julia's legacy of kindness, dedication, and service will continue to inspire those who knew her.
