Judith Evelyn Hamm Hicks, age 77, of Devonne Drive, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead, Kentucky.
Born June 8, 1944, in Morehead, Kentucky she was the daughter of the late Arthur “Polly” Hamm and Mary Margaret Jenkins Hamm Hardin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Lindsey Hardin, and two sisters, Ama Leigh Hamm Whitaker and Anita Sue Hamm Trent Blair.
Judy is survived by her loving family including two daughters: Angela Hicks Johnson (Dan) of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Tina Hicks Pendleton of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; four grandchildren: Laura Williams (Daniel) of Lexington, Kentucky, Megan Rogers (Kyle) of Jeffersonville, Kentucky, Grant Johnson of Austin, Texas, and Zachary Johnson of Indianapolis, Indiana; and three great grandchildren: Kolten Williams, Kaden Williams, and Beau Rogers.
Others to cherish her memory include two nephews: Jim Tom Trent and Michael Trent (April), of Morehead, special long-time friend Al Black of Waters, Michigan, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Judy graduated from Rowan County High School and earned an Associate Degree in Finance from Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio. Her employment spanned more than 50 years in the hospitality industry and finance. She was a switchboard operator for GTE, office manager at Heck’s, claims processor at Harold Bellamy Insurance, bookkeeper at The Citizens Bank, hostess at Holiday Inn, and bookkeeper at Browning Mfg., all in Morehead and a stockbroker assistant at Flagship Financial in Dayton, Ohio.
Judy served as President of the Morehead Homemakers Club and was a member of the Owingsville First Church of God, where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing, and walking the beach looking for seashells; however, her greatest joy was derived from the special times she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. When her latest great grandchild was born (unbeknownst to Judy), she was singing “Jesus Loves the Little Children.”
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2022, at the Clearfield Cemetery, 100 Clearfield Cemetery Road, Clearfield, KY 40313 with Pastor Lowell C. Rice officiating.
