Joyce Skaggs, accomplished folk artist and beloved mother and grandmother, left this earth for her Heavenly home on November 20, 2021. Joyce was seventy-nine years old and a resident of Elliott County, Kentucky. She loved to be outdoors, especially fishing and tending to her garden or her front yard flowers. She loved woodcarving, and later discovered painting, which kept her hands busy and her heart happy in the past few years. Her unbridled joy for life and sweet, genuine smile will be remembered and cherished by all those who knew her.
Joyce was much loved by her family and community, near and far. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Skaggs, as well as her mother and father, Charlie and Lovel Lemaster Blankenbeckler, and her sister Jewel.
She will be sadly missed and mourned by her four children: Bonita Skaggs-Parsons, Rickey Skaggs, Patty and Jim Skaggs, and Tammy and Thomas Boggs. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Misty Skaggs, Eric Parsons, Jaclyn Denkins and husband Josh, Megan Abner and husband Mike, Morgan Boatwright and husband Steven, Aaron Boggs, Garrett Simmons and wife Rinda, as well as her great grandchildren: Abby, Sam, Ollie, and Lucas.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Rev. Elijah Wagoner and Rev. Johnny Moore officiating.
Joyce will be interred at the Holbrook-Lemaster Cemetery alongside her husband and generations of family members wo have been waiting for her in a better place. Pallbearers: Eric Parsons, Aaron Boggs, Garrett Simmons, Jay Skaggs, Wendell Skaggs, Kelly Fannin. Honorary pallbearer: Tony Blankenbeckler.
