John Paul Thomas, age 91, of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at his residence.
He was born July 12, 1931, to the late Roger and Grace Jackson Thomas of Bath County.
John graduate from Rowan County High School and attended Morehead State University. John served in the U.S. Air Force at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Following John’s service to his country, he returned to work with his father at Thomas Wheel Alignment and Radiator Service. Prior to retiring, he also worked for Cumberland Lake Shell Oil Company.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Hall Thomas, whom he married August 29, 1954; two daughters, Lucinda Crager (Fred) and Paula Markwell; four grandchildren, Alicia Rowe (Travis), Tina Rowe (Dwane), Tyler Sargent, and Matthew Markwell; six great grandchildren, Jason Crose, Aeriel Crose, Mitchell Kidd, Tiara Kidd, Jackson Kidd, and Thomas Pennington; two great-great grandchildren, Haiven Crose and Jasper Castle; and a special life-long friend, Donald R. Jones.
John enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He compiled an extensive family history for future generations. John’s Christian faith was an important part of his life. He enjoyed the time he spent in the past supporting the children’s bus ministry for his church. John was bestowed with the honor of becoming a Kentucky Colonel in 2012 and was also a member of the Corbie Ellington American Legion Post No. 126.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, April 7, 2023, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Ben Furman and the Rev. Saundra Nathanson officiating. Burial will follow at Brown Cemetery with full military honors presented by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
Pallbearers: Dwane Pennington, Travis Bollinger, Tyler Sargent, Matt Markwell, Mark Poston, and Danny Reynolds.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, April 7, 2023, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
