John Marshall Stokes, age 69, of Northfork Drive, Morehead, passed away Monday, October 4, 2021, at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead.
Born September 9, 1952, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of the late Robert W. and Rosemary Grower Stokes.
John is survived by his brother, Paul R. Stokes (Paula) of Morehead; two nephews, Kevin Stokes (Nikki) of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Matthew (Micah) Stokes of Morehead; one niece, Anna Stokes of Cincinnati, Ohio; and great nieces and nephews, Kylei, Haddy, Georgia, William, Joey, Sawyer, and Kayleigh.
John graduated from University Breckinridge School and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Morehead State University. He was a retired teacher and former assistant baseball coach for the Lawrence County Board of Education. John was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed golfing and watching all types of sports, especially his Cincinnati Reds and Bengals.
A funeral mass will be held 3 p.m. Friday, October 8, 2021, at Jesus Our Savior Catholic Church with the Reverend Arturo Molina officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Anna Stokes, Kevin Stokes, Matt Stokes, Billy Goldsmith, Bill Redwine, and Jay Padula.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Friday at Jesus Our Savior Catholic Church, 315 Battson Avenue, Morehead, KY 40351.
