John Richard Holloway, age 51, of West Liberty, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2019, at Morgan County Appalachian Regional Hospital in West Liberty.
Born November 7, 1967, in Morehead, he was a son of the late Johnny Emerson Holloway and Elizabeth Trent Holloway. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Theresa Lynn Holloway.
John is survived by his wife, Lisa Allen Holloway, whom he wed October 20, 1989; one daughter, Megan Elizabeth Holloway Jordan and husband Timothy Kyle of London; one son, John Luke Holloway of West Liberty; one sister, Jennifer Ann Spahn and husband Gilbert of Lexington; two nieces, Madeline Spahn of Lexington and Ashley Brooke Gullett of Paintsville; one nephew, Eric Matthew Castle of Paintsville; one great niece, Abigale Bristol Gullett of Paintsville; two sisters-in-law, Cindy Castle and husband Rick of Paintsville and Lora Fitzpatrick of Lexington; and mother-in-law, Cora Allen of Paintsville.
Other survivors include two uncles, Wales Trent and wife Thelma of Morehead and Harrison Trent, Jr. of Wayne, Michigan; numerous cousins; extended family; and friends.
In 1985 John graduated from Rowan County High School where he participated in wrestling and football. In 1989, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree at Morehead State University with a major in sociology and a minor in criminology. During his college years, he was a member of the Morehead Fire Department, Morehead Police Department, and Morehead State University Police Department.
Upon his college graduation, John was employed at the Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex in West Liberty until he retired as Deputy Warden in 2017. For a number of years, he and his family resided on campus. John held various leadership roles at EKCC and was a member and instructor of the Corrections Emergency Response Team. Highly skilled, he received numerous first-place honors in statewide sniper and marksman competitions.
John was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon, KY Zeta Chapter, Osage Tribe, Morehead Masonic Lodge No. 654, and Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church in Salyersville.
A devoted family member, John was a loving husband and father. He adored Lisa, was especially proud of Megan’s success as an attorney, and was looking forward to John Luke’s future as he becomes a college student in the fall. John will be remembered with love by his family and dear friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Bro. Mark Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in the Clearfield Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Tim Jordan, Gil Spahn, Rick Castle, Eric Castle, Jim Tom Trent, Kevin Trent, and Mike Trent.
Visitation is 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
