Joe Hamilton, 86, of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025, in Morehead. Born on July 6, 1939, in Flemingsburg, Kentucky, Joe lived a full and industrious life rooted in family, community, and a passion for business and golf.
Joe was the proud owner and operator of Heiner’s Bread Franchise in Morehead for many years. His entrepreneurial spirit also led him to establish Eagle Auto Sales in Elliottville, where he combined his love for automobiles with his keen business sense. Known for his dedication and work ethic, Joe built lasting relationships through both ventures that extended far beyond the workplace.
He was affectionately known as “Poppy” to his ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren—a name that reflected the warmth and affection he shared with his family. Joe is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Karen B. Hamilton. Together they built a strong and loving home filled with laughter and cherished memories. Joe’s legacy continues through his children: Trent (Ashley) Hamilton of Morehead; Lea (Ed) Guida of Bay Minette, Alabama; Cindy (Allen) Sargent of Morehead; Anissa (Brian) Carlisle of Morehead; and Jeremy (Cammy) Hutchinson of Mt. Sterling; and brother: Kenneth Hamilton (Joanne) of New Richmond, Ohio. He was a proud grandfather to Joseph Hamilton; Abby (Jarred) Moore; Patrick (Morgan) Carlisle; Amelia (Tom Banahan) Carlisle; Will Carlisle; Kellen Beckman; Owen Hutchinson; Kaitlyn (Dustin) Harrelson; Bella Guida; and Trey Guida. His joy multiplied with the arrival of great-grandchildren Hadley, Henley, and Hudson Moore, as well as Parker and Nora Carlisle.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Goldie Hamilton.
Outside of work and family life, Joe found great enjoyment in buying and selling cars and trucks—a hobby that mirrored his lifelong interest in vehicles. He also had a deep love for golf and spent countless hours on the course with his many golfing buddies. These moments brought him joy and camaraderie that enriched his later years.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to special caregivers Linda Smith, Lorrayne Hargrave, Linda McKinney, and the UK St. Claire Hospice team for their compassionate care during Joe’s final days.
