Jimmy Luke Spurlock, age 86, of U.S. 60 West, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2023, at his home.
Born February 10, 1937, in Rowan County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Howard A. Spurlock and Anna Pearl Patton Spurlock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, William Clayce “Doc” Spurlock, Howard DeForest “De” Spurlock, and Bobby Gene Spurlock.
Jimmy is survived by two brothers, Billy W. and Lois Spurlock of Morehead, Kentucky, and Larry Joe and Deborah K. Spurlock of Lexington, Kentucky; and one sister, Sharon Sue and Wendell Watson of Florence, Kentucky. Others to fondly remember him include devoted nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.
He graduated from Morehead High School and Morehead State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree with a major in accounting. He started his career in business with Paul Miller Ford in Lexington, where he held the title as top car salesman. Jim’s entrepreneurial spirit, dedication, and skill led him to establish Jim’s Used Furniture and Appliances, a venture that became a mainstay in the community, and Jim’s Tax Service, which he not only founded but continued to own and operate for nearly five decades. His dedication to work is evident in the lasting impact he made in the lives of so many people he helped during his lifetime on earth. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
A celebration of his life will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 25, 2023, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Mark Caldwell officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery with nephews serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 24, 2023, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
