Jerry Lee Mullen, age 75, of Salt Lick, formerly of Morehead, departed this life for his heavenly home on Sunday, February 12, 2023, with his family by his side.
Born January 25, 1948, in New Castle, Indiana, he was the son of Carl Richard Mullen and Lorraine “Dena” Wages Mullen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Danny Carl Mullen, and one grandson, Alexander Scott Masters.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Mary Hale Mullen; two sons, Adam (Melanie) Mullen, and Joey Earls, all of Morehead; three daughters, Kellee (JR) Kunzie of Parker, Colorado, Erin (Theodore) Hawthorne, of Garden Grove, California, and Rebecca (Mark) Moore of West Liberty; one sister, Kay (John) Bowles of Lake Havasu, Arizona, a very special “brother” Ted Wisehart of Middletown, Indiana; 14 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and other extended family.
Jerry never met a stranger, only people he didn’t know yet. He soon remedied that. He began his working career as a police officer in Olive Hill and Grayson and was a former firefighter for Montgomery County Fire Department. Jerry also worked 12 years at Heilig Meyers Furniture and later become an insurance salesman for Transamerica where he met and befriended many people.
Everyone knew if you met him you had to look at pictures of his grandchildren. He was very proud to hold the title of “Papaw”. Jerry spent years as a little league coach, and the kids also called him “Papaw”. He was a strong Kentucky Wildcat fan and loved to talk sports of any kind and was a Kentucky Colonel. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.
