Jean Hill Obituary

Jean Fielding Hill passed away Saturday, May 18, 2019, at the Hospice Center in Madeira, Ohio. She was born on October 17, 1926, in Morehead, Kentucky, where she lived most of her life. Her husband of 66 years, George C. Hill, preceded her in death on June 8, 2012.

Jean is survived by her children: George Carlos Jr. (Kay), Rhonda Collier (Bill), Sherry McEwan (Bob), Robert Matthew (Evie); nine grandchildren: Chris (Nissa) Ryan, Jennifer (Brian), William Matthew (Krista), Natalie (Matt), John (Nina), Mark (Lily), Madeline, Sadie; and twelve great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Sadie Beatrice Hogge Fielding, and a brother, James Arthur Fielding.

Jean graduated from Breckinridge Training School in 1944. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master's Degree in Higher Education from Morehead State University.

After World War II, George and Jean met and were married ten months later on November 7, 1946. Their life together was filled with much love and devotion for the Lord, each other, and their family. They were lifetime members of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Morehead.

Jean taught school in a one-room schoolhouse for three years. In 1957, she and George bought the Western Auto Store on Main Street and operated their successful business for over 40 years. She was an extremely civic-minded individual. She was instrumental in organizing "Women for Water," which was dedicated to Rowan County's ownership of its own water supply.

Jean received the Lions Club Distinguished Service Award for outstanding community service. While president of the Preservation Committee, she received the Rowan County annual award for outstanding contributions to local history as well as a commendation from the Commonwealth of Kentucky House of Representatives for her contribution in the restoration of the old courthouse into a museum. Jean was a past president and charter member of the Morehead Business and Professional Association. She was a past president and member of the Morehead Woman's Club. She served on the Harvest Festival Board, was a member of the Garden Club, a Kentucky Colonel, and an avid bridge player.

Above all, Jean was very loving, fearless and optimistic. She was extremely committed in all facets of her life. She will be deeply missed by her loved ones.
