James Raymond "Ray" Black Obituary

James Raymond “Ray” Black, age 83, of Lakewood Drive, Morehead, passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at his residence.

 

Born January 1, 1938, in Morgan County, he was the son of the late Allie Jaye Black and Ethel Donahue Black.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Brenda Carol Gastineau Black, who passed away in 1992; a son-in-law, Donald Osborn in 2006; three brothers, Bert Black, Allie Black, Jr., and Larry Black; and three sisters, Jean Black, Anna Faye Zawacki, and Cora Morse.

 

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Joyce Evans Rigsby Black, whom he wed in 1994; three daughters, Scottye Rae Osborn of Brookville, Ohio, Glenna Carol Perkins and husband Eric Perkins of Dayton, Ohio, Jaymela Donnisa Black and husband Michael Matthews of Englewood, Ohio; three stepdaughters, Sherri Jackson, Tammy Cooper and husband Gary Cooper, and Karen Pettit and husband Tony Pettit, all of Morehead; a stepson, Douglas Rigsby and wife Tammy Rigsby of Centerville, Ohio; four grandchildren, Brody Osborn, Brendan Osborn, Michael Shiverdecker, and Amy McIntosh; 4 great grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren; and 12 step great grandchildren.

 

Other survivors include one brother, Philip Black and wife Louise Black of Florida; two sisters, Ava Maddy of Arizona and Mary Lou Moore and husband Ronnie Moore of Florida; two brothers-in-law, Don Gastineau and his wife Betty of Granville, Ohio, and Lester Evans and wife Mildred of Morehead; nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. 

 

Ray lived in Clearfield before moving to Ohio, where he worked for Danis Construction for 40 years.  Following his retirement, he and Joyce moved to Morehead in 2005.  Ray enjoyed boating, camping, fishing, traveling, and making walking canes.  He also loved going to Bluegrass festivals, dancing to Bluegrass music, and spending time with family and friends.  He attended Clearfield Tabernacle First Church of God. 

 

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, August 13, 2021, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Rev. Cecil Ison and Rev. Johnny Hatfield officiating.  Burial will follow in Clearfield Cemetery.  Family will serve as pallbearers. 

 

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday, August 13, 2021, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
